This report will be published annually by the Auburn Water District as required by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (DEP). The Auburn Water District is pleased to report that we are below the MCL (Maximum Contaminant Level) in all of our previous year's testing required for all contaminants in our water supply. The results shown in various tables in this report are required by law to be published even though they do not exceed the standards. We must report on various chemicals even if the water does not exceed the MCL's on certain contaminants. These reports are made so that people who are vulnerable to any amount of contaminant in the water are made aware of their presence in the water. Such individuals that may need to be aware of these chemicals, even though they are below drinking water standards, are the following:
-
Immune-compromised persons (such as persons with cancer undergoing chemotherapy)
-
People with HIV/AIDS or other immune disorders
-
Some elderly and infants can be at particular risk.
These people should seek advice about drinking water from their health care providers.
The Auburn Water District, in this past year, has done over 800 tests for more than 80 drinking water contaminants. This testing is required to insure that you have the best and safest drinking water that we can possibly supply. It has been in the past, and will be in the future, the policy of the Auburn Water District to do everything in its power to insure you safe drinking water. We also try to keep you informed of areas where you can help us to protect our valuable aquifers in the town of Auburn. An aquifer is a water-bearing stratum of permeable rock, sand, or gravel. Once you lose these valuable resources it may be next to impossible to insure good quality drinking water for the town of Auburn. It is everyone's responsibility to insure the safety of our aquifers. The District is always willing to supply any information we have to help you with these matters.
